Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Calihan is a board certified Family Physician who has practiced in the northern Virginia region for more than 25 years. She was a founding owner and practicing physician at Loudoun Medical Group, P.C. one of the largest multi-specialty physician practices in the mid-Atlantic region. She served as LMG’s Medical Director from the founding in 2000 until 2013 and as board chair from 2000-20005.
Dr. Calihan has also spent years studying and attaining credentials in holistic and integrative medicine. She trained in acupuncture with Dr. Joseph Helms at the UCLA School of Medicine. She trained at the Center for Mind-Body Medicine in Washington, DC, where she became a preceptor and trained healthcare professionals. She became board certified in holistic medicine in 2000, and she was in the first class certified at the Institute of Functional Medicine. Her practice Integrative Family Medicine Center has been awarded the “Best of Loudoun” for alternative medicine since 2007.
Dr. Calihan has also served as a director at Inova Loudoun Hospital and was chair of the board from 2010-2012. She is a graduate of Smith College and Georgetown University Medical School.
Strategy & Operations
With more than 20 years of successful senior leadership experience with nonprofit organizations at the state and national levels, Liz Heagy brings expertise to the start-up and scaling of large focused programs and organizations. She served as managing director of the strategic partners' program at the Environmental Defense Fund where she took a fledgling program and tripled its growth in two years. She has also led the expansion of two nonprofits: the Center for Lobbying in the Public Interest, as president and CEO, and the Virginia Campus Outreach Opportunity League as executive director. Under her leadership, both organizations transitioned from their origins to become highly regarded leaders in their fields. She led both organizations through exponential growth in funding development and program expansion, all within goals and objectives of each.
Liz has served an adjunct faculty at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute, where she taught the primary nonprofit leadership course and served as senior associate to GPPI’s Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership. She was also a litigation associate at the Jones Day law firm. She graduated from Temple University School of Law and Mary Washington University.
Joseph Lynch, Legal Counsel
Mr. Lynch serves as outside general counsel to the Institute and to the Healing Arts & Wellness Center on a pro bono basis. He previously served as counsel to Dr. Calihan in the formation and operation of the Integrative Family Medicine Center. Mr. Lynch is a health law attorney and a partner with King & Spalding, LLP in Washington, DC. He has more than 25 years representing community hospitals, academic medical centers, physicians, and physician practices as well as other health care providers on a broad range of business transactions and in regulatory compliance. He has represented numerous clients in the conception, formation and start-up operations of businesses involved in healthcare delivery. Mr. Lynch is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law and Cornell University.
