We Are Being Challenged

We are being challenged, even tested, in these days of such division amongst us. Many are digging in more ardently that ever, and much of the rhetoric we are hearing is infused with anger and hatred. That makes it hard even to hear. And the anger is drawing us further and further apart, making us focus on what separates us, not what joins us.

Underneath all this anger, I believe, lie both fear and a mentality of scarcity. When scared, we can believe and do things that we wouldn’t normally do.

The truth is that we are not so different, each of us. We are actually more alike than different; we are all people and we share this one beautiful planet together. But if we don’t pay attention to what we are doing, we may damage the planet to the point of no return. If we don’t start taking care of each other, our greed and our focus on what separates us may push us to extinction.

Perhaps it doesn’t have to be a contest as to who has the most, whether that be money or things or power, although these are certainly what is rewarded in our current systems. Perhaps we could focus on what joins us, what we can do together to save our planet, to feed our people, to honor our earth.

Caring for our planet is not optional; caring for each other is not optional. It is time to resist the anger and the hatred and to stand in defiance of an agenda of separation. We need to, each of us, shine the light that is within and send love into the world.
